Smoke on the Lake funds our giving opportunities all year through the grants we are able to award to local organizations. Today's meeting is to make sure that everyone is fully aware of their roles, and able to execute on the days of the event comfortably and confidently. 7:30 North Cobb County: Dave Schwickerath - Smoke on the Lake Prep Meeting Guest Who, what, when and where. Mother's day weekend event is our all hands on deck volunteer event of the year. This meeting helps us all align and come together to create this outstanding, smooth running, event of the season! At this moment you have signed up and will get the details of the day. Time to shine my Rotary family. 12:15p Roswell: Supreme Court Justice Charlie Bethel Guest GRSP Wrap Up Meeting Charlie Bethel brings a unique set of experiences to his service on the Georgia Supreme Court.
Charlie’s legal career began with service as a law clerk on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia for Justice Charles A. Pannell, Jr. Upon completion of his clerkship, Charlie returned home to Northwest Georgia where he practiced law in Dalton and spent over a decade in the flooring industry in executive and legal capacities.
While maintaining his day job, Charlie was elected to serve as an Alderman for the City of Dalton and later served three terms in the Georgia State Senate. In the Senate, he successfully carried legislation on a broad array of topics and counts the passage of comprehensive juvenile justice reform legislation and autism insurance reform legislation (commonly referred to as “Ava’s Law”) as the high points of his legislative service.
Charlie again answered the call of public service when Governor Nathan Deal appointed him to be a judge on the Georgia Court of Appeals in 2016. Upon the retirement of former Chief Justice Harris Hines, Governor Deal appointed Charlie as a Justice on the Supreme Court of Georgia on September 4, 2018.
Throughout his years on the bench, Charlie has been faithful both to the law and his oath of office. He understands that judges must set aside their personal preferences in deciding each case before them and that they must follow the law, even when the outcome may be unpopular.
Born in Athens, Charlie was raised in Dalton, a place he and his family still call home. He and his wife, Lynsey, have three children and are active members of the First Baptist Church of Dalton.
| 8 7 Dunwoody: GENERAL MEETING: Laws of Life Presentation What is a Law of Life? A Law of Life is a short, pithy saying or quotation that points to a core personal value or ideal. Oftentimes, a Law of Life serves as a memorable and meaningful moral compass on a person’s journey through life. The Georgia Laws of Life Essay Contest asks students to select their own Law of Life, and to write about how it applies to their lives. In doing so, students reflect deeply and write from the heart about what they think matters most. The contest celebrates the students’ stories and their often profound reflections, and proudly presents significant cash awards to students and teachers

Kelvin King was born in Macon, GA and raised in Mableton, GA. His mom, Janet, was a teenager when she had Kelvin. His mother, at a young age, had the courage to leave an abusive marriage, becoming a single mother to two children, Kelvin and his younger sister Tameisha. Kelvin spent most of his childhood in a single-parent home and they oftentimes struggled to make ends meet. Though he became the man of the family early, his mother and grandmother worked hard to instill in him the values needed to grow into a successful young adult. It was these values he credits with earning him an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy where he was an All-Conference football player. Kelvin graduated from the Academy and served 5 years in the Air Force as a Contracting Officer. He made the rank of Captain before deciding to leave the military and transition to corporate America. Upon completion of his service, he returned to Georgia to begin building his life as a civilian. He worked in procurement, business development and eventually became the General Manager of an international construction firm where he achieved numerous honors including being named to the Top 20 Under 40 in ENR Magazine and Manager of the Year in his company. After several years in this role, he decided to save enough money to start his own construction firm, Osprey Management. Kelvin's firm has twice been named the fastest-growing business by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Kelvin is married to Janelle who serves as a panelist and commentator on Fox 5 Atlanta's "The Georgia Gang." The two of them have been entrenched in Georgia politics as leading conservative activists and are passionate about spreading the Republican message throughout the minority community. They founded "Speak Georgia", a 501c3 organization designed to educate and provide resources to the community directly from subject matter experts. The Kings are active members of the Church of the Apostles and love to cook out with friends during their free time. Kelvin takes great pride in being the father of Christian King, a fellow Air Force veteran, and the father-in-law of his wife, Tiffanni King.
